Mayor’s Fund for London Youth Board

Join our Youth Board
Are you a young Londoner aged 16–24 who wants to shape change in your city?
We’re looking for young people to join our Youth Board – a dynamic group that helps shape the direction of our charity and makes sure young Londoners’ voices are heard at every level of our work. Whether you’ve been involved in our programmes before or are simply passionate about making a difference, this is your chance to have a real impact.
What is the youth board?
Launched in October 2022, our Youth Board is made up of 15 young Londoners, aged 16-24 from across the capital. Many have been or still are participants of our programmes, whilst others joined to represent the voices of their peers and to influence the support the charity is able to provide.
They all bring their unique voices, ideas, and experiences to help us:
- Represent the interests and views of young people by helping us ensure that our programmes are high quality and in line with their needs.
- Generate ideas and new ways of bringing young people to the heart of MFL by providing advice on matters relating to them.
- Ensuring the voice of young Londoners is heard by. Creating and informing communications and content.
- Attend events and speak on behalf of young Londoners, in and out of MFL.
Who can join the Youth Board?
We believe that every member of the Youth Board is unique and provides different experiences and perspectives to the table. We’d love to welcome a diverse group of volunteers from all boroughs to represent the needs of the city’s young people.
You can apply if you:
- Are aged between 16 – 24.
- Live in London.
- Are passionate about making a difference in your community.
- Want to speak up on issues affecting young people.
- Are interested in topics like employment, creating opportunities for young people, food security, and youth voice.
We’re especially keen to hear from young people from Eastern European and East Asian communities, those who are not currently in education, employment, or training, and young people who are actively involved in their local community hubs.
Why should you join?
By joining the Youth Board, you’ll:
- Meet like-minded young Londoners who want to make a difference both from within our organisation and across London.
- Learn how charitable organisations work.
- Represent young Londoners through our programmes and campaigns.
- Develop your confidence, public speaking, and leadership skills.
- Take part in unique training & networking opportunities.
- Receive a personalised endorsement at the end of your term – for future job, education, or funding.
When does the board meet?
If successfully selected, you’ll meet with fellow board members at least once a month usually on the third Monday, either virtually or in person. In-person meetings will take place at our offices on Union Street, Southwark, or at corporate partner’s offices across London.
If you need to take public transport to reach a meeting location, don’t worry, we’ll reimburse your travel costs.
Youth Board members will also be invited to attend and take part in internal and external events throughout the year, where they will act as Ambassadors for the charity. Timings for MFL events and other activities will vary throughout the day, with some early morning and evening starts. We encourage Youth Board members not to miss more than an hour of school to prevent disrupting their education and other commitments.
